Not exactly an accurate statement. There's a lot of situations that tethering just is not feasible. Sports.... news reporting... weddings....

Just a thought. You could put the camera and laptop wherever you want to place it and run digicamcontrol on it for tethering. If you have a second PC at the house you can run a remote control / screen capture app like VNC to control it over wireless. This probably needs a bit more thought but I think the principle is ok.
With that model you can pull the files back to review as well.
I also have pocket wizard radios that I can trigger my camera with, but that's expensive unless you want them for flash use as well.
