What are the 3 Trinity of Lenses made by Tokina, and Sigma?

I know Nikon has what is considered the Trinity of Lenses that every photographer wants in their arsenal, but which lenses correspond to those that are made by 3rd party vendors such as Sigma and Tokina? I'm looking for a good 10-18 or so wide angle with a 2.8 or better, and a 16 or 18-70 mm with a 2.8 or better and then a 70 - 210 2.8 or something close to those numbers. Anyone have any suggestions? Oh yes...preferably autofocus....goes without saying but you never know...with built in motors even though my D7100 has a built in motor in the body....unless you know of less expensive lenses without? confused yet?

For the wide angle, go with the Tokina 11-16. Can't beat it. Then there's the 17-55mm, another awesome lens. Then to round it out...the 70-200 f/2.8. There ya go...all set. Just takes a wheelbarrow full of cash and you're off and running. :)

Can't agree with this too strongly. Superb lens.

I would add the Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 DC APO HSM to this Unholy Trinity. IMO, it has a near perfect medium-zoom focal length for DX, while packing a fast, and constant (!) maximum aperture of f/2.8 and corner-to-corner sharpness that competes with some of my Nikon primes. It's big, it's bad, it's worth every penny.

Combine Nikon and the third parties, and there you are.
My list would be: Tokina 11-16mm (DX) (prime Samyang 14mm for FF), Nikon 16-85mm (for DX cameras, 24-85mm VR for FF), Tamron 70-300mm VC. Least expensive collection to cover everything from extra-wide to strong telephoto.

Just fill in the blanks with the same offerings of either 3rd party brands. It just relates to "Full Range Coverage" from wide aperture lenses.

I was having trouble deciding what I'd do if I absolutely couldn't have the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G but there's your answer... I'd have to go with the Tamron equivalent as well.

And that would round out my version of the Unholy Trinity:

  • Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX
  • Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 DC APO HSM
  • Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

And now that I see it spec'ed out... Damn! That's makes for a pretty fine arsenal!

I say add the 35mm f /1.8 G and get a Focal Foursome!
