Work Flow

Browncoat, great info on your post. You mind if I use some of your methods? 

If you mean personally use some of the methods for tagging, archiving, and editing your own photos, I'm sure Browncoat won't mind. I'm sure that's why the information was posted in the first place. If you're planning to write a book and use that information in the book to turn a profit, then you might want to have further conversations with Browncoat so that he can be properly credited as the source and compensated as necessary.

Lol... A book? Hell! I'd rather be photographing a dead skunk or riding my motorcycles. I guess my post came too polite 

LOL...I figured that you meant the first option. My second option was meant more as an extreme example. Nothing wrong with being polite. Just hit the @Browncoat's Like/Thanks button for the post you found helpful and that's probably more than enough compensation.

No, you may not use my work flow methods without written permission, signed in the presence of a notary, and co-signed by my attorney.

;)

I'm on a Mac so my work flow is different. I have my "Pictures" folder with each year (2014, 2013, etc.) subfolders.
1) I copy the contents of the SD card to Pictures/year/2014-04-18-subject (for example, notice this format sorts correctly in file view)
2) the Mac TimeCapsule automatically backs up my work
3) I also backup my entire Pictures folder and my Lightroom Cataloge to another external drive.
-- now I have work still on the card and two backup locations, plus my Pictures working folder
4) import into Lightroom and away I go. I work with the NEF's (and export to jpegs only as necessary for uploading to a website)

Good thread :)
I import to Lightroom.
Folder structure: YYYY/YYYY-MM-DD/
Keep filenames the same most of the time.
Apply standard metadata. Add keywords as appropriate.
Run my 'pics' through the develop module.
Export JPG to the same folder + /Lightroom Exports/
Upload to my zenfolio site, flickr (most) or personal/family pics to share to SmugMug.
