And this is anything. a new lens thats sells for $400, these guys are selling for $800. the exact number is not relevant but were talking super high numbers. theyre pricing it as if they dont know what it sells for.
One reason I've seen people do this is to draw attention to their other listings. Say they put a camera body that normally sells for $800 up at a BIN of twice that. People on forums like this one post a link to the add and the posts in the thread soon follow talking about how outrageous it is, yada yada. Some people click to see their other listings and may well find something they want and buy it. It's a mind game really.

Yes, other times the seller is flat out of their minds or have no clue LoL

Are you positive that is the case? I haven't noticed that change myself.

Also taking effect today are the new requirements for a Buy It Now price to be 30% more than the Auction-style start price ...............

The main thing i try to watch for now are the people who post a picture and title of one thing but in the fine print your just buying something like a chance at it or your Judy getting info on where to buy it for your bid price i haven't seen this in a while but once i bid on what I thought was a rc truck and ended up buying info on where to buy one at a good price just luckily the other bids were not high so i didn't pay a lot for it.

Yeah, if you see that just report it. ebay will pull that in a heartbeat.

And why are some really cheap items listed at a selling price of $999?? There is a reason, and I am not sure it is to trick people somehow.

I think there are a number of bored Sellers out there who put stuff up for sale at high prices to pass the time. Then there are the Sellers who post an item for $5 .... and add $95 Shipping. Both types waste bandwidth and serve only to clog searches with garbage.

yeah, they are hoping you won't notice the high shipping costs till you have won, or maybe your bidding on a couple different things and forget in the mad dash to win and forget which one had the high shipping cost. I have diffently learned to read the full description and check the shipping costs, plus where is it located..

ebay has put measures in place to limit the shipping price gougers. Not sure if all selling categories have seen that upgrade yet.
