not sure this is the right place but..
saw on Amazon the D5300 was available w/18-140mm lens for around $1096. there's also a bundle that includes the same camera and lens plus a Tamron 70-300mm lens, a Precision Design Tripod (58"), flash attachment and remote, 2 UV filters - 1 for each lens, etc. all for $1299.95. just $200 more than just the camera and lens. doing some pricing, it would cost about the same if i bought just the 2 lenses together to use with my D5100 - no new camera or flash attachment, etc. seems to me to be worth the money given you get a new camera in addition to the new lenses but on the other hand, it's probably as cheap as it is because of the lower quality of the other items. am i right on this? never heard of Precision Design before.

Those bundled items are mostly junk and the 70-300 is the older non-VC version. I would not buy the Bundle. The body and 18-140 may be a good buy. As others have said, get the D7100. Save for better lenses in the future.

Exactly. Also the D7100 has a built in focus motor that the D5xxx series does not have. There are lots of high quality used A-F Nikkor lenses to be had for low prices.

I'm probably going to take a whack at it and say you saw the bundle from Cameta camera. Ideally I would agree with everyone else here with the consensus of going with the D7100 or save a few $$ and get the D7000. If video is a bit more important to you then go with the D5300 bundle only if you do not have any other equipment. ie. tripod, flash, memory card, spare card, spare battery, screen protector, uv filters, cleaning kit, remote shutter release etc. While this may not appeal to everyone, it should benefit someone that is relatively new to the hobby to get extra bonuses especially when it means shelling out extra $$$ later for other things. If you do not end up liking some of the items, you can always resell them locally to recoup some $ and put it toward more gear.

Otherwise, Cameta is a great company to deal with and their service is top notch. Do not hesitate to purchase from them.

The D5100 is a wonderful camera that can do most of the things you would ever want.
I have the D7000 too (that i actually got for my wife, but she didn't get bitten with the photography bug, so it's mine now) as well, but i don't think it's a big jump.
if it were me in your shoes, having the experience of getting the D5100 & D7000, i would strongly suggest you get lens(es) for the D5100 till you ready to upgrade to FX or something

Make sure it has a USA warranty and that it comes with the box and everything that should be included...like a lens hood if one comes with a USA lens.

I still don't see how 18-140 + any 70-300 out there adds up to $1100.... Even new, msrp-wise they just don't. I'd honestly go with what everyone else said- if you're looking to upgrade, seek 7100 or maybe a 600 since you don't really have too many DX or FX lenses to bias you towards either sensor. If budget is an issue, either of these will allow you to use the older D lenses with AF and metering, so it could save you a couple hundred here and there, but 5300 won't.
