f/8 is the widest my 80-400 will go with a 1.4TC so I had to compromise, They have turned out good considering and the faster shutter speed also stops the wind and motion blur.Very sharp shots. Very nice bird images...and nice birds! You live in a great part of the world for that kind of photography. Very cool stuff. I was checking the EXIF data and noticed that oftentimes you are shooting at 1000 ISO or higher and using apertures of f8. You seem to be going for very fast shutter speeds. I know that the D800e can certainly handle those higher ISOs without any problems, but with such bright sunlight had you thought about shooting at ISO 200, and living with shorter shutter speeds, or wider aperture (although are you using a 1.4x converter?)?
Yes I do if handholding, but also its been scattered cloud all day so that effects with ISO and shutter speed. But what I do know is if I can fill the frame and not crop at a high ISO they look good, its when I crop that they start looking crappy.I am really impressed with how good your shots are using the 1.4tc Scott, very nice indeed.
Do you find you need the very high shutter speed to get the sharp images with your combo ?
Now if I can stop attracting over grown finches on steroids I could get some nice shots...
