Everything you needed to know about Macro.

Scott what is the white foam panel attached to the lense? Is it a diffuser for the flash?

I had the same question and that's the answer I talked myself into. Still not sure how it would let enough light through to be useful though. Seems too thick to me, so maybe I'm still missing something.

Its a diffuser, you would be surprised at the amount of light that was actually transferred through it. Just word of warning 'DO NOT LOOK AT IT WHEN FLASHING' as it can be very bright.

If you have ever wondered what different combinations of different lenses and filters do, here is a quick comparison.

Not sure how it would go, alot of people I know have gone away from set ups like that.

I would like to try it, but I am not spending $50 to test it out. I've got enough dust collectors already.

Now that I think of it, I should dust a few of them off and put them on fleabay. I can use the money to buy something that might be useful .

I watched those videos a while back. The finished product looks a bit too unweildly and cumbersome for the way I like to shoot macros.

I have a few ideas for improving my current set-up, but I just have no time to do the mods and testing. Lately I dont even have time to get my camera out of the bag.
I am longing for a lifestyle change, but unfortunately its not going to happen for a while yet.

Probably not but just looking at the latest image I do not have a flash (other than one on camera) battery grip, those lenses and a decent tripod.
Now for the lenses …………… and ……… and ……..
One day maybe but for now happy to learn with my basics and read and watch the experts at work. Really do enjoy the brilliant photos and people in this site.
@Lawrence most of my macros are with only the onboard flash  so no excuse :p

I just bought the sb-800 speed light, and now I'm trying to figure out what diffuser would work best with it. What version of diffuser would you recommend for me for macro shots buddy? Like others I can't really afford a lot of trial an error buys right now! Lol :)

I'm looking for something that holds up real well, that I can find fairly reasonably priced. Lol I'm keeping my eyes open to find that foam stuff you use for when I'm not using the sb-800, but so far I haven't found any yet. :(
