Congrats to your wife for letting you upgrade tell me your secret so I can update !! Have a great time learning the new toy!!!

There is "free" money laying all around.....for some reason people get mad at me when I point this out. LOL I bought my D7100 from money I make for a lack of a better word, "picking". For me it's a very profitable hobby and the best part is the wife never questions me when I spend this "found" money.

Darrell Young's D7000 book was a great learning tool for me. I suspect he has one for the D7100 as well. It's an intelligent walk through the manual with logical explanations of what each function really does, how and when to use various settings, and some good recommendations on how to set it for yourself.

At £9.71 for the Kindle version, downloading ...

Super Mod
I just got the tracking number on my new D7100 w/18-140. Can't wait

That's just great Don. The good thing is that the menus and buttons are I'd guess identical to the 7000, so the learning curve shouldn't be that hard to follow.
Congrats!

Interested to read your review on the WU-1a. I'd like to get it, but the few reviews I read weren't inspiring.

Well I haven't yet attached the adapter with only having the camera for an evening but I will use it tonight.
The deciding factor for me is that I use an Android phone and tablet - So I am not restricted to the basic Nikon software.
If you take a look at an Android app called "DSLR Dashboard" on youtube, you get full wireless control including shutter speed, bracketing etc. all of which need to be done on-camera using Nikon's free app.

I will start a new thread when I have put it through its paces!

I went from D80 to D7100 at New Years. I love it. The 1 thing that I love the most, as I do a LOT of HDR so shoot LOTS of bracketed sets is the ability to shoot 5 bracketed shots and the fact that if you set it to bracket shots and use the "timer" shooting mode, it will just go ahead and take all the shots....no need to push the button (or remote) for each individual shot :D

I haven't got into the bracketing as yet, but it is one of reasons I bought the camera - I take lots of shots when walking the dogs, an the dynamic range in a forest can be challenging!

Well, after much thought and persuading of the wife, I have just gone and ordered my D7100 body online..... It will be a jump from my D3100 and I can't wait! The D3100 has been a great camera to learn with over the past 3 years, but the extra features of the D7100 were too much to resist!!

While I wait for delivery, I have downloaded the HUGE manual.... Let the learning curve begin!

I highly recommend David Busch's Guide to the D7100. He's sold over a million books and they're very informative and you can get them on Amazon for around $20. I bought the guide to the 5100 also. When I sell my D5100, I plan on making that book a part of the package. It's just a great book for learning your way around the 7100 and DSLR photography.
