It was a beautiful day today and was able to get this little guy when I went out this morning with the dog. Most of the time, we all upload color photos of birds. This time, I thought I'd be a little different and processed this photo in B&W.

What? Me? Grumpy?

This guy looked just a grumpy in color and B&W.

I spotted this small herd of deer way up in the field while I was driving home after getting gas for the car.

Nice shot. So you were able to stay in the warm car and shoot?

No. Actually, I had to get out of the car, but the temp was in the mid-40s so it was rather pleasant.... especially taking into consideration the sub-zero temperatures we were having recently. The longest lens I have is the 55-200mm and had the focal length set at 200mm. I used my D3000 because that is what I had with me. It was nice to get something other than opportunistic cat photos, bored dog photos, and weird objects around the house. :)

We have had some unusually warm days lately but with that comes the storms. Areas just north of me earlier this week got close to 100 mph straight line winds. where I was it only got to 40 or 50 mph and lots of rain.

Back to winter weather. :( Back to cold weather indoor photos... Finally, I was able to get a photo of the freshly sprouting hyacinth bulb. I think it will have more than one bloom this year. :)

The return of cold weather made me resort to finding something inside to photograph. I found these scissors. Jenny started to check them out and realized that it was only scissors, not food. She lost interest before I could even focus on her nose. :)

My photography class is a bunch of wooses and weenies: it was "too cold" to go outside. This came from one of the kids who is notorious for running out of the school without a jacket or hoodie. We ended up taking photos around the school. I took this of our Industrial Arts teacher (for those of us who remember it being called Shop Class) while one of my students (whose hand you can see) was taking Mr. Lasky's photo. I used my D7000, my non AF Nikkor f/1.4 35mm lens, and set at ISO 400, no flash. It came out better than I expected. The only post processing I did was adjust the exposure by one stop and convert it to a JPG.

The idea was to take photos using available light. The kids are using Nikon 4300 P&S cameras. They take very good photos for what they are. They don't do RAW, but they do take 1080 video. I will spare you some of the videos my students have taken. :)

Thanks for that, I dislike most videos. You need to shame the little wussies outside by hook or crook. Tell them they need to suffer for their art or something.

Believe me, I have tried. I even make sure I am wearing a nice heavy sweater and turtleneck on cold photography days.

Like most people around here, I am so tired of sub-zero F temps and the Polar vortex. I am trying to think of more warm weather things, so here is a photo of some strawberries I ate after I took their photo. :)
