As it is, it simply mines map information from the various photo sites out there (I plugged in a nearby town and found all my Flickr photos that were geotagged).

So, if you find this site as difficult to navigate as I do, just go to Flickr or 500px (or any other photo sharing site) and use the map search there, or just plug "Dallas" into the tag search function.

Whenever I got on the site it said beta in the top. I think that might be why

I just tried the site and my area came up with 0 matches. If you scroll the map, you can see all the places I shoot, but I guess they didn't like them.

Mine was the same Marilynne, just had to wait a bit for it to load. Its not the fastest site, but I really like the idea and hope they keep improving it.

I watched it countdown, it started with 20, then went to zero.

Thats funny, maybe you should sign up and add some. At least I had a few, but I did look in the larger cities that are close to me and there was a bunch. I pretty much know the area but its always good to where others are going.

Do you geo-tag your photos on Flickr or another site? If you're not putting it on the site's maps then this site has no idea where they are, even if you put in a tag that says where.

Yeah, if you click on any of the map locations it shows you a photo and a link to a photosharing site with the person who took it. Would love to be able to navigate directly to that site at that time, but you can't - at least not while maintaining the current frame.

Right, I was playing around on my Ipad and at first it was pretty cool, but then I noticed some limitations. Plan to check it out on my computer. I have thought about something like this to catalog locations for shoots and downloaded an app to my phone to do this, but haven't even started using it yet. I am thinking down the road if I ever get serious about a side business in photography I can have various locations to show potential clients and let them pick. Good intentions, good ideas, just need to figure out if I ever want to execute them.

hey all - I run ShotHotspot. I've been reading all the feedback and I can make a few changes to make it more usable, e.g. right click. There's a good technical reason why you can't right click on brand new hotspots (ones with one star), but I'll try and come up with a way around it.

Regarding speed, it can only go as fast as Flickr/Panoramio can return it's results, so not much I can do about that.
@BackdoorHippie - 1) nice name!, 2) didn't quite understand what you meant in your last comment, could you explain?

You could create a List of hotspots (Lists of great photo location ideas by our members | ShotHotspot) if you want, and keep it's status as 'Unlisted'. This way you could send the list to clients. Ipad support is somewhat basic at the moment, although it's constantly improving! Could you let me know the limitations and I'll try and address them

This is the only place I post my photos. Guess no one else in my area geo-tagged their photos.

You can try the Japanese Botanical Gardens. It's a lovely place for photos and a nice walk. Just make sure to bring comfortable shoes and water.
