This is only the second time I have ever seen an eagle in the wild and I spotted it today. This is a heavy crop and shot with a Nikon 70-200VR with a 20E III 2x extender using a D600 handheld.

Jeff, excellent capture! I have never seen one in the wild... That would be a thrill!
Majestic!

I thought this brown pelican was going to sing me a song but all I got was a BIG yawn. I would just like to say that there are many places that I take pictures at that look similar with a bird sitting on a pole in the water but they are not all taken in the same place. Many locations have these poles due to the hurricanes and such removing the pier that was attached.

Beautiful shot Jeff, curious because I am thinking about this combo setup. How far was the eagle or can you post the original so I can compare.

Kevin, I will post the original out of camera shot and the cropped processed version so you can compare the two. I would like to add that after taking these pictures handheld and the eagle flew off I noticed that the VR was turned OFF on the lens.

Thanks Jeff, shot looks great and I think this will be the way I go when the funds allow. I was thinking the 1.7 TC, but have been seeing and hearing good things about the 2.0.

A buddy of mine had the Nikon 1.7 and as soon as he tried my 2x he sold his. Make sure that you get the 20E III Nikon 2x converter that has been out for a couple of years because the earlier version was not very good. I am very impressed with this one.

Thanks Michael and Barbara for you very nice comments. I like taking pictures of these birds but wish I had a bigger variety of subjects to shoot.

Move to FL. There's a few houses in my neighborhood for sale right now. I could become your student.
