hi all

proud to have the new d7100 turn up yesterday , appreciate the time for any answers

im a semi advanced photographer

i think i just thought about this answer as im writing lol , i wanted too assign the back scroll wheel too change iso , rather then push button and change but i just thought about manual and that changes shutter speed , is there a way too do this?

i also noticed sometimes the exposure meter doesnt work on aperture priority and somtimes it does , it always works on manual , id like too see it at all times if possible

im sure ill have a lot more questions over the next couple of months lol

Take a look at menu item d3, easy iso. Its on page 239 in the English version of the manual.

I'm not sure what you mean that the meter does not work. The display times out?

edit: I think I know what you mean, the +/- graph comes and goes. I'll have to try that, I don't have the camera near me.

Ok, camera in hand. The +/- indicator is there in manual mode all the time. In A or S, it only appears when you are at a limit of shutter speed or aperture and the exposure meter is not happy. If exposure is good, you don't see it. However, if you dial in some positive or negative exposure compensation in A or S, it will again appear.

Probably because you aren't figuring out the exposure, the camera is. It's always going to make adjustments so it's at 0. In Manual mode, you use the exposure indicator to control the exposure yourself. In A, the camera uses the shutter speed to set the exposure. That is why you aren't seeing it in those modes. You only see it when the camera says "hey, this isn't gonna work because it's too dark, even at the extreme setting". In "m"... the camera doesn't adjust. YOU adjust the exposure, and therefore need the meter. Hope that helps.

dam just replied a reasobaly large post and wasnt logged in lol

ok thanks for the easy iso option , exactly what i wanted , very easy now too adjust aperture to what i want then dial iso up so shutter is fast enough for light or focal length at eye level without having too push button

thanks for the exposure meter on / off reply , i understand now why its on sometimes in aperture mode , so i can assume its on 0 if its off and then just adjust ex compensation if i think i need it

love too see an option where iso resets too 100 on shutdown , i dont think there is one and it surprises me , iso imo is so critical and nothing worse then taking shots without noticing its high , although i do have the camera set too show iso all the time so its hard i guess not too notice but still be good for it too reset

ill go fill out my profile now , looking forward too learning heaps and thanks fellas

Yes, iso has snagged me a few times. I am pretty good about checking it now. The crop mode is my item to forget. Almost every time I have played with it, I forget and don't notice in the viewfinder.

Easy, set up what ever you want the ISO, mode, RAW/Jpg and anything that's settable - then save it in one of the two user setting (U1 and U2). Then every time you turn on the camera, it will always wake up with that setting regardless of what you have done to it after you turned it on! That ways the U1 and U2 setting is for - user setting.

I have u1 and 2 set too just jpeg and raw, the rest of the settings are the same ,just about too check it out, unless I'm missing something here,I set on user 1 when I saved it was at iso 100, I changed to iso 6400 shut it off
and when reopened it was still 6400

oops sorry - try again. I do this so automatically that I forget that I do it. Whenever you turn on you camera, just turn the dial to anything but U1, then turn back to U1 and all your personal preferred settings will be set up! Also, during the shoot, you may be changing some other stuff and anytime you want to go back to your own default, rotate to anything and rotate back to U1 and you have it! I set U1 for my non-flash shot settings and U2 for when I shot with flash.

You might want to spend more time going over the owners manual it answers a lot of these questions.
