I think I have decided on my next holiday. How does Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru sound for 36 days? Will look more into it :)

Was in Bolivia last year Scott. PM me if you need some tips and believe me, compared to Peru and Ecuador, you may need them. Can definitely help with wildlife tours as we did 6 mths research before we went. Peru, apart from the historical sites, you'll be wanting to go to Manu national park. Can also give you some tips on Ecuador, I gather you will be hitting the Galapagos islands? Anyway, love South America. Been there 4 times already and will be doing the Panatanal in Brazil around September 2014.

This is the tour I am thinking of doing - West Coast you're Wonderful 2013-2015, Ecuador: Geckos. But I know if I go to Ecuador I will have to say hello to my friends there and stay for a week or so otherwise they will kill me lol.

Always good to get local knowledge. I think an organized tour is a good idea if you don't speak or speak much Spanish. South/Central America is not like travelling to almost anywhere else in the world. No Spanish, potential issues. However, some of the best, most pristine and importantly value wildlife opportunities on that continent are in Bolivia. Way cheaper than Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Peru. If you end up in La Paz it's an 30 amazing minute flight into the gateway to the Bolivian Pampas.

Yeah I also have friends in Lima and I have been told I can stay with them if I like, I do not speak Spanish (well I know a few phrases that's it) but my friend does, the only issue is she lives in New York and most likely will not be in Lima whilst I am there. I think an organised tour is the way to go, and it was with Gecko's that I travelled with through 10 countries in Africa with out any major dramas.
