Here is an exaggerated shot of my setup..
Tried to get them all in a single shot..

If you look closely, there are 2 flash brackets in that setup.
You don't really need to use both & you would not cos the system gets a little heavy.
Both work quite well & you probably would need either one.
I ordered them on impulse, but have used either on some occasion.

The first is a C type bracket, from here - C Type Bracket Camera C Mount Video Light Flash Light for Two Mount | eBay
The second is something like this - 11" Metal Friction Articulating Magic Arm Nikon Canon Camera LCD Monitor LED | eBay

How do you hook the articulated arm up to the Nikon without the second piece? It's the moveable arm setup that interests me the most. :)

You can connect it 2 ways - one way is to connect the screw end to the underside of the camera.. the other side has a hotshoe kind of thing, but you would need some adapter to connect to the flash.
Other wise, the hot shoe type end can be connected to the hot shoe of the camera & the screw end to the flash
