Purchased this piece of equipment the other day after reading decent reveiws on it and veiwing some well taken photos, just tried it out and i dont no if im doing something wrong here but all i get is blur, i cant seem to get any focus at any focal length, ive tried it on my 18-105 afs and my 55-300 afs lenses, both tried on mannual focus and auto. I read some where that the longer the focal length the greater the magnifcation, but still all i get is a blur, but if i take it off the lens i get a normal exposure on auto and mannual focus. Thanks for reading :)

I have had a little bit of luck with mine but it has been a while. If I remember right fine tuning focus was done mainly by moving the camera. The results were OK but it took a bit of work. I know I was using the D3100 and I think the 55-200.

Hey there, you will find that you need to get a lot closer than normal. The Raynox will allow you to get closer to your subjects but it also means that it will only do macro and not longer focal points. Try placing an object on the table and with the lens at its longest focal point move towards that object, it will come in to focus. I hope this helps.

Also I should note that you will most likely need flash and a reasonable shutter speed. Please post some photos of what you are getting.

This was taken today with my 90mm macro and the Raynox DCR-250. ISO 400, F/20 1/320sec, flash and homemade diffuser.

The method I use with extension tubes & close up filters is the move the camera back & forth until I find focus.

Looking forward to seeing your shots too.

Yeah, it takes a bit of practice and patience. Most important is to use a tripod. any slight movement, you will show on the photo since you are taking macro. Do post your photo and good luck.

I wouldn't say it was most important to use tripod as you can get very good results using a flash setup (even onboard). I would say the most important thing is to practice and practice and practice and get your technique down, work out where your lens is in relation to your subject and how to get focus by moving your body back and forth leaving the camera in manual focus. You can use auto but with a Raynox because the focus plane is so slight it is very hard to use auto, manual is much easier if you ask me. A tripod is only good if you have a very static object and even then its good practice to handhold to improve your technique.

its a great little toy but you need to get really close to your subject and it has to be very well lit. on crop sensors it's best to shoot at focal lengths greater than 50mm, or you might get some vignetting.
