Issues with my D7100

Please note, this was all shot at mid day, bright sunshine. Its summer here. It was very bright.

This is weird for me because with my D3100 with these settings in the same lighting would overexpose like mad

Was your d3100 maybe set for auto-iso? Were you shooting in manual on the d3100? It should not overexpose on those settings, rather you should be in a mode that helps you choose the proper settings. Don't just pick settings in manual mode.

If you can take a successful indoor flash picture on AUTO with your 18-55, your camera is probably fine. Also try a sunny day picture with your 18-55 lens on P mode. That should come out good on pretty much any iso also. Try auto iso like Horoscope suggested. maybe he can suggest the best minimum shutter speed for that lens to program in to the auto iso settings. Auto iso will boost your iso as needed for available light. But you must tell it how low to allow for a shutter speed so you don't get blurry pictures.

I have always shot on manual D3100. I always shot on ISO 100 seeing as I have never lacked for light. At those settings on my D3100 I got fine shots...a bit overexposed on light coloured items. I usually shoot at mid day at about F8-10 with a shutterspeed of 1/800 and faster. Thats why I am asking these questions because I am having such issues with my D7100. So I am now wondering if this is normal or if I should take it back and see if it isnt the camera.

Here is one thing you could try. Use the sunny f16 rule. 1/125 f-16 on a sunny day, 1/250 f-11, 1/500 f-8, 1/1000 f5.6. Take the same sunny scene with these different settings and see if you get consistent results from shot to shot. There is a possibility that you shutter speeds might be off and this is a good way to check it out.

Keep trying to find what's wrong but start with something that has been proven right. The sunny 16 rule is one of these things that can let you diagnose the problem you thing your camera has.

Was this also with the 150-500mm?
Try the sunny 16 like Marcel suggested and some indoor flash on auto with your 18-55. If they come out good, the camera is probably fine. Sure something could be wrong, but if you get consistent well exposed shots on auto and P, the camera should be good. Pay attention to your meter in these shots. If the meter is happy, the shots should be good. If the meter is happy and the shots are poor, you have a problem.

I just need to know if it was a mistake from my side or if this is maybe normal for this camera. If not then I will go exchange it when I can.
