Back in my day we hobbled those together out of PVC pipe and a roll of butcher paper. 'Course back then we didn't *have* pre-made PVC pipe so we extruded our own out of mud and straw, slaving under the hot sun.

And we *liked it* that way.

Actually have never heard of a shooting table before. I envisioned someone with a double barrell shotgun shooting at a table...

Really? Most dedicated stock photographers use a shooting table for jewelry and smaller items.

They're very nice to work with. I got a chance to use one once, and it was pretty nifty. A lot bigger than the one pictured, though. Not cool enough for the whopping price tag, but the DIY route seems reasonable.

Yes really :) baring in mind that I am only a hobbyist and have never ventured into stock photography.

Nice, I could see using PVC pipe to make the frame also. I would never buy one when it could be made at a fraction of the price.

That table from Hong Kong is a bargain.

For anyone inclined to build their own shooting table I suggest caution in using anything less than Plexiglas as a surface. Plexiglas is no glare and offers the capability of lighting from below and the back. Unfortunately, like just about any transparent material other than Gorilla Glass, its also subject to scratches and dirt abrasion, so if you plan on regular production usage don't toss your paper and cloth backgrounds.

And walked 3 miles uphill both ways in blinding snow just to get the straw right? :)
