Did you resize the vertical pictures and forgot to constrain the proportions? They looked stretched on the wide side. Was that intentional?

Sorry, it's just the thumbs that are like that. Maybe select full when you select the thumb size as this would avoid the unconstrained posting of thumbs.

Hi, I'm thinking of replacing my D7000 (after it didn't survive an involuntary dip in the river) with a D600 instead of a D7100. Is this a good idea? I do already have some nice Fx glass, all I need now is a good standard zoom. Can anyone recommend a good one for me? Is the kit lens any good?

Anyhow, I did test one in the shop with my 105mm micro and was absolutely stunned by the results. I remember pixel peeping my D7000 pictures (especially macros) and always being not quite happy. Well, the D600 at ISO 1000, hand-held in mediocre light just blew my mind away! I cropped and cropped and was still impressed.

Here's a sample shot I took in the shop, just testing the detail. Yes I know it's a horrible shot, but it's just a quick snapshot.

Oops, sorry I didn't mean to upload the full file - don't want to bog down the server. Here's a crop.

Oh and I meant to ask, how does full frame work out for macro photography? I adore macro which is why I got the 105mm, and it's quickly becoming a favourite of mine. I immediately noticed that one can crank up the IS0 amazingly on the D600 without detrimental effects, but that the DoF is considerably smaller than with Dx. I knew that the smaller DoF was an asset of Fx, but for macro work it's a real drawback (I can imagine). How do you guys get around this? Do you just stop right down at high ISO? Who has macro experience with the 105mm on the D600?

Looking forward to answers :)

Greetings,

Zimboy

P.S. Here's a smaller file of that test shot:

You'd need an image that's sized to fit your screen. And since there's so many different sizes..............

OK thanks so it doesn't help to just down-scale it like I did? Oh and by the way how do I get the "image editing" to show "NO!" instead of "yes"? (sorry, I know this is off-topic and doesn't really belong here...)

OK how do you guys get the images to fill the screen? I'm new to the forum...

When you upload your picture, just after the thumbnail shows up in the reply box opens, double click on your thumbnail and a dialog box will open to let you select the size your uploaded picture will show.
