I have been thinking (only) about getting a D5100 for mt second camera. Just how versatile is the D5100 with a selection of lenses from 10 mm through 300 mm?

D5100 is a pretty nice camera. I think you'll find plenty to choose from in that range. Your D3100 glass will be a great fit :)

I went from the D3100 to the D5100 and the move is pretty easy. They are very close in operation with a few options on the D5100 like bracketing and the rear screen that really made it a good choice for me. I love mine. My newest lens is the 18-105 I wish I had had that lens originally instead of the 18-55 that is came with. I love that lens. It just works in so many situations that you don't really need to change lenses so often.

The D5100 is a very capable camera. My lens range is from 18mm to 300mm, and it does everything I need. With a fast prime it is a good lowlight camera. I use the 35mm f1.8 and the 50mm f1.8.

Thank You to one and all replies, my decision has been made on your messages were very convincing. I have decided to go with the D5100 as they are still available now the D5200 is on the photo market and selling quite well. Now this I will not be getting the Sigma Lens 10 mm 20 mm. This is okay as I do have the 18 mm - 55 mm and this will have to do for a long while. I know I can get the D5100 Body only is around $500.00

Thanks again

You really might want to consider a refurbished D5100 body. I bought mine as a refurbished and it has been great. This place has them for $359.95 and what I like about them is they have a 1 year warranty where most places only offer 90 days on there refurbished cameras.

Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera Body - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty

I also just bought a 18-105 refurbished form them . Could not be happier with a company.

I only recommend companies that I have delt with and am happy with. I am sure all companies have glitches on occasion but I hope your order is not one of them. I could not be happier with the camera and lens I purchased from them and I hope you are as happy with your d5100 as I am mine.

All of us have been there in some form or another, bad business in just part of the evil game that one needs to either research well or depend on the people who have physically dealt. In college I took Criminology, Political Science, Psychology and your Constitutional Rights as a Drug Dealer/Drug User in a court of law. I became an Investigator first in the Army then for the DoD and what really got my goat was Criminals have better rights than you or I. Even with all that I have made some horrific deals with small business' that in one case I did sue them in a court of law. Bad businesses are out there and to tell you the truth the only way to find them is by dealing with them, however, if one wants to by-pass the bad part then one, like myself will have to do a thorough research. Now a days we have the internet that seems fairly reliable in locating bad deals just by looking up the names and seeing the numbers of people saying basically the same thing about their experience.

Don, someday you are going to get into a LOT of trouble if you keep on feeling these companies! Dude, that just ain't right! :devilish:

Carolina, I could not agree with you more, if you did not know the person with misspelled words, you would have second thoughts of dealing with a company that they recommended. Into today’s world Spell Check, Word, Dictionary or other spelling devices available, although it would not made a difference as in this case Felt and Dealt are both commonly used words that are found in the Dictionary. Although, I knew what he was saying.

Spelling is always a problem when you have fat fingers and using TapaTalk on an iPhone,

I too have those lightening fast nibble fingers that slide across the keyboard like hot butter hitting the wrong letters all the time. In high school same problem, however, we did not have computers, but we did have to write essays and give book reports. I use to get my Tang Tongled behind my Eye Teeth and could not see what I was saying. Let me say I could and have cast the first stone about the misuse of the proper words and the misspelling of words that looked correct to me, but were not.

Gosh this is a rough crowd on spelling, I guess I had better watch my Ps and Qs. Dot my i’s and cross my t’s

I married a psychiatrist assuming she would be what she appeared to be.

All I can add is I have been married for 41 plus years to the same woman. I thought it was a contract marriage, when after 20 years you can say my contract is up, wife says No you do not get that, this is for life without parole.
