Selling on Craigslist ugh.....

I decided to sell my Medium Format gear so I could free up some money and buy a decent tripod which I really have been wanting for quite a while. So I placed it online on a couple of photography boards and on Craigslist. I marked it down well below retail to make it sell quick and got no bites except for Craigslist. Anyway I had people offering to buy for less than what I had it marked which was several hundred dollars below the prices at KEH or Kohs camera. I finally gave up and got a quote from KEH which ended up being $772 for everything. I just thought by selling it locally and taking a hit I would save some time and trouble in packing it and shipping it off. The truth is it was much easier to just pack it up and ship it off to KEH than it was to keep telling everyone who emailed me that I would not take $150.

I was actually shocked to find out KEH paid that much for my old gear because it was way more than I was asking in the first place. I think from now on in the future I will see what they are offering when I decide to sell any old gear as they were quite far and paid the shipping to get the equipment.

I always liked the OM1 and OM2 cameras. I have a nice old OM1 I cant give away to anyone and they really are bullet proof. I tried to sell it last year for less than the value of the 50mm lens it wears with no takers what so ever. I even tried to give it to a few people merely for the actual cost of shipping to them. No one wanted it , so it just sits on a shelf. One of these days I will find someone who wants it and I will gift it to them.

The one thing that really hurt from my KEH experiece was that they gave me almost nothing for my FA and Motordrive, but I was not having any luck selling it or the FG20. So I took what they offered for them The Medium Format gear though paid quite nicely considering I used it for over a year and did not pay even close to what they offered.

It seems that many people who post things for sale on Craigslist take no more than 30 Seconds to create and post their ad. Whatever the item, important data like the Manufacturer and Model Number are often missing.

Maybe that's why my crap sells on Craigslist almost as fast as I can post it... For real. But then I do write paragraphs, using proper English, grammar and punctuation. And pictures of course, and a little caveat about "stupid, low-ball offers". My gawd, the amount of stuff I've moved on Craigslist...
