Install Lightroom 4 program/application on external drive?

I've trolled the net trying to find a definitive answer to this.
I'm a Mac user. Recently bought an external 2TB drive to export my catalog to, as the hard drive space on my primary laptop dwindles. I have installed OSX 7 on the external drive and it seems like a really good idea to just install the complete Lightroom 4 package there as well. Then I can use it on any of the three Macs that occupy the house...
Will this work?
Anyone have any experience of a similar set up?

I am not sure how Macs are but on a windows computer there are many other files that have to be on the computer for a Program to operate. You can install it and use the program on one computer and have it reside on the external drive but it will probably still have some key files in the registry that will be on the computer. will work on that computer only. At least this is the case on a Windows computer.

If you installed the OS on an external drive I assume you did so can you can boot all your computers from it. So boot from the drive and install Lightroom. It should work the same as the internal drive once your are running from the external.

You're correct jwsti. The idea was you start the computer holding down the option key and then select the external drive and it boots from there...

Yep. Done it many times over the years. Installing the OS will give you everything you need to run LR from the external. Just boot and install.
