Re: Walkaround Thailand

Pattaya Floating Market is established under the concept of presenting Cultures and traditions of 4 regions of Thailand - Northern, Southern, Central, and Northeasthern. The concept covers how people from these 4 regions live, what their main activities are, and what the main products from there are, so the floating market could indicate what people in different areas live and what they earn from their ancient times. Additionally, Pattaya Floating Market is the largest floating attraction in East of Thailand, which would encourage more visitors to come to Pattaya.

Pattaya Floating Market not only presents cultures and traditions from different regions of Thailand but also presents niche products from there, such as wooden sculpture, silverware, textile, paper handcrafts, sailing-boat model, wooden-handmade bags, Thai silk, and so on. Not surprisingly, the visitors usually buy souvenirs or gifts for their friends and their family from this floating Market.

Re: Walkaround Thailand

I really enjoy these geography lessons. I'd much rather see your view of your land than that of a travel guide. Thanks again.

Re: Walkaround Thailand

Around the time of the full moon in the 11th lunar month, usually the first weekend in October, farmers from all over the province bring their buffalo to Chonburi City for a festival that dates back centuries. Costumed dancers move to the music of traditional Thai songs amid flags and banners. General merriment prevails as local beauties vie for the title of "Miss Farm Maiden". Judges also award prizes to the best decorated buffalo.

The races themselves are preceded by a parade of colorful buffalo-drawn carts through the central part of the provincial capital. Then the contestants are led to the stadium while farmhands run along side and throw buckets of water on them to keep them cool. The buffalo are fed a mixture of beer and eggs to enhance their performance, and the riders probably consume one of the ingredients to gather their courage for the bareback ride of the rampaging beasts. Crowds whoop and roar and dive for cover as the numerous rounds narrow down the field to four finalists. Finally in the late afternoon the winning buffalo is festooned with garlands and prizes are awarded to the rider.

Re: Walkaround Thailand

Here in Thailand people pay respect to their relatives who passed away. No it's not every year on the same day, it depends on a certain day of Buddha's day, especially in my area it depends on a traditional Chinese Buddha day (Theravada Buddhism)

First they will go to a neasrby temple for a pray and to pay respect of their god

The Institute of Marine Science

The Institute of Marine Science, Burapha University was originally from the Zoological Museum and Marine Aquarium of the former Srinakharinwirot University Bangsaen Campus (Burapha University at present). In 1980, the University proposed a cooperative project to the Japanese Government for a construction of new facility to replace the Zoological Museum and Marine Aquarium. The project was approved of 230 millions baht to construct the Marine Science Center.

Her Royal Highness Princess Mahachakri Sirindhon presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of the center on March 23, 1982. His Majesty the King came to preside over the opening ceremony of the Marine Science Center on July 24, 1984. The Marine Science Center was later approved by the Cabinet as the Institute of Marine Science on May 23, 1985.
