After a crazy day at work, it was nice to get out into the sunshine. I saw this web on a post and rail fence and just loved the way the sunlight fell on it.

Did you find out what the flamingos were doing the that yard? Birthday, moving to FL or something else?

5-15-13: Addendum... While I was out with the dog tonight for her last outing before bed, I noticed these very industrious arachnids on the window near the outside light. Both are labyrinthine orb weaver spiders. For you Trekkies out there, you may appreciate my spousal unit's comment when he saw the first spider photo. He said it reminded him of the U.S.S. Enterprise. :)

I have a personal question for you Barbara... When you and you spousal unit are out at an event how do you introduce him?

Occasionally When my wife of 37 years and I are out I will introduce her as my baby moma. She really likes that.

Actually, I introduce him as my husband Gary. :)

The whole spousal unit thing goes back to early Saturday Night Live shows and the Coneheads skits. The Coneheads skits were my favorites on SNL. If you remember, Connie Conehead (the daughter) would refer to her parents as parental units. I just took it to the next step, that's all.

I had forgotten about the coneheads. Funny.

Funny when I first saw you post Spousal Unit that was where I thought you got it. I loved that show back then.

While out with the photography class, I got this one of part of the new playground that was put in for the elementary school kids. I like the B&W better than the color version because the color, itself, makes it look to busy.

This is the way I don't mind seeing goldenrod:

Correction: this is a crane fly, not a giant male mosquito. Sorry for the mistake. I want to thank Ron (nikonpup) for correcting me.

(NOT: These are the only type of mosquitoes I do not mind. It amazes me how much larger the male mosquitoes are compared to the females.) IS crane fly! This guy was just hanging on to the siding.

Finally, the opportunistic feline photo. Creature loves to ham it up in front of the camera.

On the way home, I stopped at a pond that is down the road from me. There were two families of geese. You could tell that one set of gosslings was at least a week older than the other set. They were really rather cute. It gives me a chuckle that the owners of the pond have placed a white plastics swan on the edge of the pond. The swan is supposed to scare away the geese. i guess it's not working. :)

Okay, a change of pace today. No geese nor creepy arachnids. :) Today it is plants! Plants are your friends, and I have lots of plant pictures.

We have several crab apple trees in the woods behind our house. Here are the flowers from one.

In Bloom

These little guys seem to like a lot of shade. They are called Georgia Blue flowers. We have some growing under our forsythia bushes by the house, but this one was found along the edge of the woods near my neighbor's pond. I took it, then played around with the in-camera, color outline setting.

I have no idea what this next one is. If you know, please let me know. These flowers are about 1 to 1-1/2 inches long, grow close to the ground and are along the edge of the woods near my neighbor's pond. They are a very nice, bright magenta (my favorite color :) ).

Magnificent Magenta

In the same area that I found these, I found some starflowers. I like the profile version. It almost reminds me of a large satellite dish antenna.

I found this lichen on a branch of a dead pine tree. It is a fruticose lichen. I have two versions, the original color version, then one in B&W. I like them both.

Finally, no walk in the woods is complete without at least one photo of a dead tree or part thereof. I took this from several angles, but liked this version the best.

Seems like there are more Geese around the last few years in my area, nice shots!

You may be in the fly way corridor. The corridor in our area is about 20 miles wide and runs straight north/south. You live about 80 miles due north of me. I know someone in Elmira and they only see a fraction of the geese that we do.

If they are going to use our corridor, it would be awful nice if they would at least learn to use the bathroom :)

No fooling. You should see, or maybe not, what they do to the soccer fields at Binghamton University. There is no way I'd play soccer on those fields. They get hundreds of geese all the time. BLECH!
