Nice Industrial Work.. How did you get in???

Pat in NH

Chris used to work at Bethesda East, so we still know people. This is a stop when we pedal 9 miles for hot dogs, yes they're that good. Chris goes in the power plant to chat and I look for wildlife at the four lakes on the grounds. I have gotten some wildlife shots in the past, but no one was around yesterday so I went in the power plant.

While I was waiting for Chris at Harbor Freight I decided to play with some of the settings on my D5100. I don't know what you would use starburst for, but here it is. It's on page 180 in the online D5100 reference manual.

I had never seen that effect and had to go look for it. I thought for a minute you were making it up but I finally found it in the Retouch Menu. I had never even looked in there before since I generally just use PhotoShop for all Post Processing. This is one that might be nice to use once in a while though. Thanks. I have learned something today. I can quit trying now.

I was just pushing buttons while I was waiting for Chris. I didn't see anything until I uploaded my pictures, then I had to look in the manual (page 180) to see what it was I did.

Glad you don't have to learn anything new today.

HaHa! You get storks on utility poles. We get pigeons. :)

The pole isn't connected to anything. It's there for the birds. There use to be plywood over the top, but that's been gone for a long time. Only that little piece is left. It may have been connected to something a long time ago before the wetlands were created (1995).

I've always liked the FPL SubStations. I would always check them out when I was riding my bike by them as a kid. Maybe one day you will get lucky and see a High Voltage Disconnect arc like this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMbN9nb3qyk

That reminds me of when I was a grad student in Chemistry. On Fridays, we Chem grad students would walk over to the Physics wing of the science building and watch the Physics grad students discharge huge capacitors. Their goal was to see who would get thrown across the lab the farthest. Our goal was to be entertained by a bunch of whacked out physics grad students. :)
