Day 54 (23/02/2013)

This was my nephew's 4th Birthday party where I was asked by the mother of the birthday boy to bring my camera and take some shots for her.
Always happy to oblige when it gives me an excuse to wave the camera in people's faces ("Official duty people... please co-operate!").

Day 55 (24/02/2013)

Yet another nephew's birthday party. This time it was held outside on a scorching hot day. They decided to setup a sprinkler system around the parking area to let the kids cool off.

I've been meaning to get a decent photo of my father ever since I started this project. I took the opportunity whilst he was there to take the shot.

Your first shot of the kid screaming is a winner for sure. Your father's portrait is very good. I like the B&W for portraits.

Thanks Marcel. The first one is my favorite too. I think the portrait is a little too dark though. I have an LED monitor at work which seems to lack contrast, so when I did my conversion I think I over compensated.

Day 56 (25/02/2013)

Had very little time to get out during the day and by the time I left work to go home, a storm was rolling in.

I tried a few things on the way home, but I wasn't happy with any of them.

This is what I ended up with. :(

Oh well... there's always tomorrow.

Day 57 (26/02/2013)

In typical Melbourne fashion, the weather goes from mid 30's to storms and rain in the matter of a few hours, then back to mid 30's again! I know I'll find it difficult to get out and take a decent shot so I was on guard looking for a shot from the morning.

I go through this station almost every day, but it took me looking through the lens of a camera to really appreciate it.

Day 58 (27/02/2013)

This is a shot of Pelegrini's Espresso Bar, a Melbourne institution. It was one of the first places in Melbourne to serve authentic Italian Espresso, and was frequented by my parents regularly in the 50's.

Walked by an alleyway where a mural was painted some time ago and appears to be forgotten. It has graffiti all over it which is a shame cos it's kind of interesting.

Day 59 (28/02/2013)

Quick stroll down the road during my lunch break, but it's a pretty gloomy day today, and I didn't want to wander too far. I've always loved this building at the end of laneway, so I thought it was the perfect time to capture it.

Monochrome March - Day 1

Another laneway shot today. The one thing which caught my eye was the reflection of light on the cobblestone path.

I was thinking today I would try to follow a theme each month. I've been finding lately that I'm struggling to plan my next photo. Most of my shots have been opportunistic to date.
Because I have already posted my first photo of the month, the theme has to fit with it.
I've decided it will be "Monochrome March". Not a huge stretch for me, considering most of my shots are B&W but a start.

That's a good idea. I'm not doing theme month, but each day, I am trying to use only a single lens, whether it be a prime or zoom. I'm trying to get myself away from using either the 105 micro Nikkor or 85 f/1.8. Those are my two favorite lenses. I'm not big on using wide angle lenses, so maybe I should focus on using the 35mm f/2 and get out of my longer lens comfort zone. :)

Monochrome March - Day 2

Chasing the kids around the backyard with a camera is a regular weekend event. What caught my attention today was my son's shadow cast by the late afternoon sun.

Monochrome March - Day 4

This is a photo of the Melbourne GPO. It used to be the Melbourne General Post Office before it was sold off to developers. I actually work for the company who own it now, and it has been converted into a shopping and cafe' precinct.

Monochrome March - Day 5

A nondescript brick wall, window and door. Can't add much more to that description.
