Hello,
I currently using Nikon D5100 with AF-S DX 18-55m f/3.5-5.6 G VR Lens. I use the camera a lot for filming, a most of time i had to keep eye on focus during filming otherwise the picture will go blur.

So am looking for a new lens which it best for filming. Any advice which lens to look?

Was looking this lens:
18-105mm AF-S DX Nikkor F3.5-5.6 G ED VR Lens ..... Is that any good?

Thanks,
Thomas

I have not used mine for video so I looked for an answer.

My best guess is that the problem is not the lens unless you are trying to capture something beyond its limits.

Here is what I found in "From snapshots to great shots" : " Once Live View is active, press the ( i ) button and choose a focus mode. It is possible to use the full time - servo ( AF-F ) mode while recording video, and you should try it out because it does a fine job in some situations, but I strongly urge you to refine your manual focus skills. Manual focus not only gives you creative control of what is in focus, it also eliminates the sound of the lens trying to maintain auto-focus."

Your post is very helpful and i will try with focus mode to see if there any better. Just wondering is this lens:

..... Is that any good for filming, mainly outdoor (landscape)

Many thanks.

Back to your question --- if I was to think of video and landscape I would think more of a fixed prime lens than a zoom lens.

Thank you for the tip, i was looking at this lens: 50mm F1.8D Prime Nikkor Lens.

I'll have a good research and see the reviews of it.
Thanks again.
