Actually, I believe they quit using it some years back. I'm sure how safe it is.

I know you like primes...... they were all shot with a 50 1.8

I was gonna say, when did they reopen, but then I read your last post. That was 6 Flags, wasn't it?

Today was the first time I have been there. I heard a long time ago that it was shut down. I had to go to Miami this morning, so I stopped there on my way back. I always saw it from 95, and was hoping is was dilapidated with a broken fence for me to sneak through..... but alas it's a Boomers. I couldn't get in and had to shoot from the fence. I took the Pano while standing on a picnic table.

A little more history on Delray - this was a gas station for many, many years. It was still operating when we moved to FL in 1978. It was full service and the attendant wore a uniform, white hat and gloves.

It was converted to a BBQ place called Elwood's in 1993 leaving the car ramp and pit in place at the bar. They also managed to save and restore most of the signs from the gas station. It was a biker bar and Thursday was Elvis night. With all of the improvements downtown, they moved off the avenue.

Elwood and I were good friends. It was a "biker-bar" only in the sense that a lot of yuppie types parked their bikes there. "Nuthin' Fancy" is a biker bar. Elwood rode an Indian.

One night he wanted to arm-wrestle for my tab.... I drank for free. Another night (1997), after I left Elwood's, I wrecked my Harley and was pretty well broken up (in front of Moragami in the construction zone; proven not my fault).

Before Delray was a hot spot, we used to play wiffleball in front of Elwood's on Atlantic Avenue on a Saturday night. You could never do that now with all the cool people jamming the street.

Elwood had actually been a fashion photographer in New York before opening the bar.

It's too bad he fell apart. I liked him a lot. He may be living in the Keys as he had a trailer down there.

Can't leave Delray without a photo of the ever-present water tower.

This artist insisted that I don't photograph him. He reminded me of Paul Lynde. He said he didn't like the way he looked in photos. Notice him shaking his finger at me.

But he did have neat stuff in his yard.
