I haven't dared to let the subject get as close as you do yet.( Only the ones I know.) I will have to try and let them get closer and try your methods. I will try it tomorrow.

Go for it newbshooter if you feel completely comfortable, the people react to your confidence and demeanor. It's not them getting closer it's you getting closer....

In my situation because the people are walking right past me they are within 2 feet or less at the time they pass me by. When I started this project I left a much greater distance between me and the subject, I just kept getting closer and closer to the people as I got more comfortable with it. At this point I don't think I could be any closer than I am :)

I wonder...after the length of time you have been shooting at this spot, you have to be well known as the "Guy taking pictures". (A good famous thing...) I wonder if there are some that come by your spot just so their picture will be taken. What do you think?

Of course, those that are given your card know who you are...Have you given thought to somehow having your card available, or some kind of advertising for your web site, and thus, perhaps offering a service to sell photos? (Just my brain working OT..) :p

Some people who are regulars in the area have asked me to shoot them by this point. I have emailed them small file images of the shots. So far I have been getting into galleries and art exhibitions and trying to get a photographers rep/agent to help me to get some work. In Los Angeles it's such a competitive market with people posting on Craig's List to shoot portraits for $50 for 3 looks and I am looking more on the commercial/editorial side versus portraits anyway. . So I just keep shooting, keep looking for a good rep and keep my stuff in galleries as much as possible. At this point I'm just trying to get the name and style of RickSawThat to be recognized in this market. Waiting for just the right person to see my work and see a good fit for actual work.....

I hope I am not being too nosey here. :cool: (RickSawThat Smiley...)

What does "looking more on the commercial/editorial side" refer to?

Is a photographer rep/agent someone who has to ask you if they can represent you, rather than someone that can be asked to assist a career?

I guess I am trying to learn about different phases of photography, by asking...hope it's OK...

Commercial = advertising photography
Editorial = pictures to illustrate magazine articles

Photographer Rep = a company that finds photographers work for a 25% fee like a talent agent that actors use

It would be great to have you out and meet you in person :)
In February I may be visiting NYC but that will be just a flying visit. Then I am off to Africa, but I am sure after that I will return and who knows relocating to the USA may even be on the cards. So if you see a guy with a strange hat and stranger accent then it may well be me :)
