8 freakin months!? dont sound competent to me. 2 months, thats fine, 3 months, a bit overboard but 8 month!? thank god I didnt send my 28-70 AFS to them.

this is not 8 months of back and forth, but 1 time, to them and part from it for 8 months, correct?

well hopefully they repaired it properly and its working correctly.

After a very long wait (~ 8 months since I dropped my camera), I finally got a notification from Authorized Photo Service (APS) that they were able to complete the repair and calibrate my camera. My baby is finally on its way back home after a very long wait and $780 + for $60 for packaging, shipping and insurance.

GREAT Glenn. Now you can have fun with it and please, pretty please, keep it above the ground.

You said it has been 8 months since you dropped your camera. So they (APS) had your camera for the entire 8 months?

About 1 month with Nikon USA and they just pretty much, flat-out said that it is beyond economical repair and rejected the camera for repair due to cracked casing.

APS was held hostage due to Nikon did not provide them a special calibration tool that it required to ensure the focus is properly calibrated. In their defense, their technician still took their time to disassemble and repair the camera. $840 for a D800E is worth waiting for in my opinion instead of buying another one.

It's been a VERY long wait! Many of us will be looking forward to seeing photos taken by it and to hear your impressions of how well the repair was done. Thanks for keeping all of us in the loop through this process, Glenn! Have fun testing it out once you receive it! :)

Thank you Scott. Once I get my D800E, I am thinking of trading my D3s for a Nikon 200mm f2 or 300mm f2.8VR. It still has less than 5k shutter actuations.

I will definitely remember that this time and will take special care. Promise!

Thanks Hark. Will definitely do that once I get it. My D3s might get jealous once my D800E returns. :D

It is reassuring that third party repairs can do a better job than authorized repair centre. Congratulations.

Someone here might be interested in buying it with such low shutter actuations--although don't know if trading it would yield you a better price overall.

I'm not in a hurry. I might keep both since there is a more likelihood that the D3s can provide more FUN factor instead of the lens.

wow, nikon are such douches. bravo for them to do a repair that nikon didnt want, err, couldnt do. a cheap price instead of buying another. $840 for a camera to use or $3000 down the drain and only used as a paperweight. easy decision there. next time, consider mack diamond vip warranty. I took no chances with my D600. 3 years of full coverage. I need the piece of mind. cheers

did you first send it to nikon japan or US?
