    First outing with 18 - 105mm

    First outing with 18 - 105mm
Whooo hooo ... my brand new second hand 18 - 105 arrived yesterday so I took it out for a spin this morning. I'm really pleased with it and even more pleased with myself as I learn to use it for what I believe it is designed to do.

Anyway here is one of the shots I took and I don't know why but for some reason I really like it. I think because the group in the image are all looking left which sort of fits in with the beams.

I'll post some more later - got some nice Bumble Bee shots.

Now this subject I struggled with - and it was stationery!

I think all the reflections off the dark background and the overall feel that it could do with a good dusting contributed to the difficulty - it couldn't be my "new" lens and definitely not me!

Did you use spot meter/center weight meter rather than matrix meter on the train? Background is a little over exposed so I'm thinking the camera metered more heavy on the black.

Ha! That is it. I was on those settings having come from the flowers and Bumble Bees.

So much to remember - so little time.

I just saw that your EXIF data came through, it was center weighted. Try matrix on a shot like the train. But I think the center weight helped you in the first shot and kept the awning from washing out. Enjoy that lens!

The shot is OK. It just needs a little post processing

    Thanks Don.
And Nick I think I will land up loving this lens.

To me the detail in the centre of this weed is unreal
