D4 is Mind Blowing!

Even tho its 16mp it's quality and colors seem to be better than expected.

The tracking quality blows anything out of the water! I can actually take the info off the review screen so pictures are full screen, the d800 and d7100 can't do that.

Built quality is much better than the d7100 and even the d800.

I wish it had a led af assist beam tho.

Overall this camera will be my go to camera for wedding receptions, party's, anything moving.

Especially the bride walking down the idle!

I am just stunned.

Corey there is nothing better - I shoot Roller Derby's in arenas that are caves with no flash ISO 12,800 and they are very very useable . How do you like the way the buttons light up in the dark?

Mind blowing Sam! For the first time in 3 months my D800 is on the sidelines!

I am shooting at ISO 320 with flash and the files look cleaner than anything else! I had it at 800 earlier and no noise at all!!
In video I did a test @ ISO 6400!

Results almost unbelievable!

Heh Heh yes it's truly a marvel. Put an 85 1.4 or 1.8 on it. it will blow you away. Another lens that works well with it is the 24-120F4Vr - outstanding results. I love that combo :)
Here is ISO 12,800

Just pure amazing! I love the feel and it's solid!

I also love how it is so peppy to fire.

And you think 48 MP is going to get you somewhere? LMAO!!!!!!

I'll tell you all something the D4 can do probably that the D600 and D800 can't do very well but first you have to guess what it is...put on your thinking caps and think really really hard! LOL :)

BTW did you realize that Nikon can hand Canon it @ss with video nowadays? Now what was I just talking about? ;)

Oh yes sir I know and it should for the money involved but there is ONE thing that is very very special that it can do that the other FX cameras are not going to be able to excel at that means a lot for video...are you ready to give up yet? LOL

Hint: The last Nikon made to do it well was the D700! hahaha

The D600 is placed to take on Canon's supremacy amongst the movie makers but you have to have the modern lenses. (All of them AF...no bueno for video!) The D800 is a frigging subterfuge. The D4 rolling in at 16 MP will make all of the old legacy manual focus glass sing like a songbird without missing a note and believe it or not some of that old F mount glass is incredible even by today's standards you just have to have the right body. The last FX Nikon made that does the old glass well is the 700 because it is 12 MP. Manual focus and this whole concept I am talking about is super important for video. Nikon is wresting the video crown from Canon! That is their strategy! They want to use their primary ghitas - the F mount. The D4 is WAY more than an action/PJ camera... Brilliant tactics and strategy Canon is as good as smoked what do they have that does this?

That may have been the intention but oil and dust on the sensor and "no aperture control" while in live view pretty much eliminate it's chances of taking on canon.

The D4 is much more competitive against canon and the d800 as well.

They had to get it out in time for Christmas for shareholder benefit...one step forward two steps back. The D600...the great camera that could have been! Nikon has a bad habit of hobbling their cameras so they can sell to the masses...but that is just good profit making business strategy.

D800 and D4 were introduced as a package deal...two best DSLRs there are IMO.

The no aperture control thing is the big knock (of course my Ai lenses have aperture rings ;) )...what do you think they will come up with to rectify that situation? Or will they?

Not that I want to get into an argument about it as I rarely even use the feature, but I'm sure in the reviews I've read the D800 was better than the D4 when it comes to video.

Also, whilst the D4 is ultimately better with high ISO shots, you have to down sample the D800 to 16mp to do the comparison.

Having said all that, I would still enjoy owning a D4 if I could justify the expense as it's a real killer camera.

Down sampling the d800 doesn't make high ISO any different.

The pixel density doesn't change when switching to crop mode.

The D800 has sharper video, also the D800 doesn't need to go to extreme ISO's it seems to be enough @ 1600

The D4 was said to have soft video, I don't think so. The crop 2.7x is tack sharp however.

Really Corey? Every article I've read (and yes I've tried it as well) about ISO noise talks about down sampling to a common megapixel point. This is done in post by outputting a 36mp image with the same dimensions as a 16mp image in this example. In doing so a lot of noise disappears. This is not the same as shooting in DX mode which will not improve the noise as you've just turned the D800 into a D7000 in reality.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not saying this would make the D800 as noise free as the D4, but it is pretty good.

It's negligible if anything. If I wanted a smaller image like the D7000 I would shoot with my D7100. I chose the D800 for the big image.

Defeats the purpose lets stay on track.

We don't buy a mustang and rip the v8 out and put a v6 in it and make it silent so it doesn't disturb granny. What sense does this really make?

None!
