Nikon has updated the Windows NEF codec to version 1.10. A codec is software that is used to compress or decompress a digital media file and function as an extension to the operating system. The Nikon codec allows you to work with NEF files in a similar manner as JPEG or TIFF. Many applications like Capture NX2, Photoshop and Lightroom don't utilize the system codecs and instead create their own.
