We're in Scarborough at the moment, waiting to see if I can get some shots of the "Tour de Yorkshire". Since the Tour De France was such as success, the region is holding it own annual race, and we are going to the finish point of "Day 1".

In the mean time, we went for a wonder around the harbour and I got these shots for my 52.... As a bonus, I've got 2 this week!

Week #17 - Damage

To stop tidal erosion damaging the sea walls, these huge concrete blocks are dropped along the outside of the harbour walls.

Shot 2 - The seagulls pick up Whelks and throw them onto the wall to break the shell open, leaving the walls covered in damaged shells

As I seem to be a week behind, I'm hoping this is me caught up! Taken at the end of Day 1 of the Tour De Yorkshire, these are the Police escort bikes, I like the uniformity of the bikes in a line against the backdrop of the paths snaking down the steep hill.

Week #18 - Curves

I really like the image of the bikes up against the hillside...very good resolution, Steve.

Thanks Chris! One of the Police escorts was kind enough to give us his copy of the day's route notes that they used as a souvenir too, a pretty unusual memento of the day! (excuse the camera phone shots!)

There has been a little trend recently to document the town where you live, showing the more normal side of life.... It is difficult with York given that it is mainly a tourism based city. Here is a series of shots from a walk through the city centre on a warm bank-holiday weekend.

Week #21 - The Town / City where I live (York, UK)

The ORIGINAL Holy Trinity - The Holy Trinity Church in York, dated back to the 13th century

dsc_0710.jpg

York is full of artists of various forms, a lot are musicians from the University.
dsc_0718.jpg

Some draw and paint portraits of the tourists...
dsc_0704.jpg

And others even hold "Ghost walks", telling tales of the more grizzly side of York's history... Given the City was originally settled by the Vikings, there is plenty of history to tell.
dsc_0711.jpg

The main shopping area is always busy - During the summer days tourists, at night with stag & hen parties and even winter with Christmas markets and Christmas shoppers.
dsc_0719.jpg

The river plays a huge part in the life of city, and the local marina were having a carnival, decorating their boats with various themes

And finally, the various ancient churches and halls are always hosting summer weddings... Unfortunately I couldn't get nearer, so here is the piper and the back end of an old Rolls-Royce. The venue is an old traders hall in what is now Museum Gardens, one of the cities many public parks.

Week #22 - Colour. A single poppy growing against a background of Rape seed plants. I'm not sure if I like how the bokeh has come out on this, so I may re-edit...
