I wonder what this will do for D300S sales. A review of the specs would indicate that the new D7000 equals, or beats the D300S in most areas. The only features that I see that the D300S has over the D7000 are:
PC terminal for use with studio strobes (No PC terminal on D7000)
51-point AF system with 15 cross type sensors (D7000 - 39 point with 9 cross type)
Max of 8 fps (D7000 max 6 fps)
Image comment & copyright can be inserted into image EXIF (not present on D7000)
Uses compact flash cards which most pros already have (D7000 uses SD cards)
Uncompressed or lossless compressed or compressed 12, or 14-bit NEF (D7000 lossless compressed or compressed 12, or 14-bit NEF)
There may be others, but these are what I noticed.
The D7000 beats the D300S in the following:
Resolution: 16.2 vs. 12.3
ISO: 100-6400 (D300S, 200-3200)
Video: 1920x1080 (D300S 1280x720)
Battery life: 1050 (D300S 950)
Many features are the same for both:
Magnesium alloy chassis with weather resistant sealing, 100% viewfinder, flash sync 1/250, etc. There does appear to be a difference in the exposure metering system. The D7000 lists TTL exposure metering using 2,016-pixel RGB sensor, while the D300S is 1,005-pixel RGB sensor 3D Color Matrix Metering II, Variable Center-weighted, Spot.
