D5100 vs D7000

Personally I was on a budget and seeing these 2 sharing the basics I cared about the most at the moment, cheaper guy won. Won by how much? Actually quite a bit to really put it into consideration for other relative beginners out there.

So rough 5100 cost with a kit lens (bought locally just in case a return is desired and is much easier): ~550. And 7000? ~1100. Twice the price for that AF motor, tad beefier batteries, slightly better AF and slightly better shooting capabilities for 2x the price? Hmmmm...

Meanwhile I'm using that price difference, one step at a time, to build a base set of gear that would help me cover a much, much wider range of situations that a bare-bone fancy kit could ever.

~65 for aftermarket grip and 4 spare batteries, used up to 2 at a time. 90 for a 55-200 VR. ~60 in total for a screen cover, filters, and macro filters. All I'm really missing is a speed light and a tripod, but even after getting those I would still be below $500 mark of that price difference.
