    Lurch's 'yet another 365 project'

A few friends and I decided we wanted to give this a shot. We've all agreed to at least do January, and re-assess is we keep it weekly or daily after that. But thus far for me: Day 1: The traditional (drunken) NYE Party DSC_2636.jpg by Mr Lurch, on Flickr Day 2: A shot of Telstra Tower...

    Local motorcycle photo ride

Regarding my shots; I certainly need practice. Both in panning in general and for getting a better feel of the AF-C on the Nikon. But here they are: DSC_2546-Edit.jpg by Mr Lurch, on Flickr And the rest

So you're thinking of switching to FF?

If you're an amateur hobbyist like myself and where 'life' generally rules over your camera play time - then read on: (I posted this on another forum (you can probably guess which one by the context) but I think it really applies to anyone who has a APS/C camera and is thinking FF 'because they...

    Walk around lens help

I'm trying to decide between the Nikon AF-S 28-300mm F3.5-5.6 VR IF-ED and the NIKKOR AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR. Is the extra speed at the top of the 24-120 worth the lack of extra reach? Any idea on how these lenses compare IQ wise? Both are a fair chunk of change, so I want to make a informed...

    Tamron 90mm help

Evening all, Quick one. So I got this Tamron 90mm Di Macro 2.8 the other day. Great lens. Just one 'bug'. According to the display on the camera, the widest I can set the aperture is only 3.2. BUT... according to Lightroom, they're being taken at 2.8. Weird..... Thoughts?

    Tamron 90mm. Teleconverter?

I've just pulled the trigger on a 90mm Tamron macro lens. I've read that a) its a good lens, and b) that focal length doubles well for both macro and portrait. But for *real* macro work, I'm tempted by a 2x Tamron SP Teleconverter? I've never used a teleconverter before. I'm assume that you...

    Abandoned Radio Dish - Canberra

Before if turns to ruin, I thought it was important to capture the abandoned radio dish that lives down in the back paddock at the University of Canberra. A couple of decades ago, this was the pride and joy of the University, along with its sister dish that sits on top of Building 11. Now both...

    Short drive south

Went for a cruise down south of Canberra towards Cooma. I knew there were a few abandoned old farm house and stuff that way. DSC_0335.jpg by Mr Lurch, on Flickr Probably went a bit overboard with the Instgram-ness with this one, but still kinda like it DSC_0341.jpg by Mr Lurch, on Flickr...

    D800 Hand/Wrist strap?

I'm hoping someone has a recommendation for me. The only downside I'm finding about the D800 vs my old K5 is weight. Nothing major; but it does get quite heavy after a while. Ages ago I got one of these for the K5 before it got a battery grip: There ended up being two problems with it...

Sigma 150-500mm APO OS DG HSM So I had one of these show up today. Only had a few minutes to play with it this evening between getting hoe and heading straight back out again :/ But - I'm very impressed. This ridge is about 1.3k's away (as the crow fly's) DSC_0259.jpg by Mr Lurch, on...

    Moving to Full Frame

Morning all, I have a question that I'm struggling to find an answer for from good ol' Mr Google. (I went looking for a Newbie section, so if I missed it - Mod's, feel free to move :) ) So... I realise aperture has two main affects on photography. The amount of light let in (as part of the...

    G'day from Canberra

Evening peeps. I'm currently snooping around the FF market to replace my Pentax K5 (which I love btw). Right now the D800 is leading the race! This place seems like a great bunch of people with lots of knowledge to be passed. Cheers, Lurch

    About to switch to Nikon.

Evening all, I'm about to make the change from my Pentax K5 to a full frame camera and right now the D800 is leading the list. My initial kit will probably be a wide-angle zoom, a nice 50mm, and a 70-something telephoto. But before I go and drop some serious coin on the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8, is...
