First couple shots, much to learn and need a new desktop for the file size!

Nice start Rick! Congratulations on the Z7. I have a terrible memory. What lenses did you get besides the 50? Dain Bramage... :confused:

Thank you Dan.

I spent a lot of time thinking of my lens path. I decided to just start out with the 50 1.8 for now. Looking at the Z lens road map, I didn't want to buy something now I will soon replace. My next lens will probably be the 85 1.8 once it goes on sale. From there I want to see the 20 1.8 before I buy the 14-30. I've wasted too much money in the past not thinking out my options. With the resolution of the Z7, I want to make sure I have the best possible lens for the focal lengths I want. It may be a little painful that Nikon won't produce what I want fast enough. At this point the only non Z lens I'm considering is the 500mm f5.6.

That sounds like a prudent course. I actually used a similar approach. I did take the 24-70 f4 because my most used lens on the D700 was my Tamron 28-75 F2.8 lens. I then went with the 50 and 85. My most likely next choice will be the 14-30 f4 just because I think it would meet the majority of my needs for architecture and sunrises and such.

Hope you are enjoying your new camera. My Z6 is just fun to use and I am finally getting up and out some.

Interesting to see your plans for lens, may be a dumb question; however, I’ll ask anyway. I don’t see plans to use any/much of your existing FX lens on the Z cameras. Is that strictly because of size or do you feel the resulting image is better? Looking for ward to your thoughts. Thanks

@IvanB

Wasn't sure if you were referring to @mikew post or not.

As painful as it is, I'm waiting for the desired Z lenses to be released. For the most part the Z lenses are outperforming their cousins in F mount, given the Z7 pixel density, I want to use the best glass I can.

Another reason is, after switching systems, I've taken a significant hit on lens devaluation. I think the Z lenses will hold their value much further into the future. While I'm not a doom and gloomer about Nikon, the writing is on the wall for F mount as evident in recent Nikon interviews. Probably the only F mount I'd buy now is the 500mm 5.6; I'll probably wait for the Z 100-400 which should be great as it's an s line, f4 I'm hoping. Lenses are never an investment, but I think F mount values are going to tank in the next 5 years, so I wont buy them now.

I think it's a great time to buy into Z now, to get the most resale for F mounts, before they decline in value. Nikon is supportive with the last 2 bodies released, but I'll bet in 3-4 years they will re-evaluate any consumer grade F mount Bodies. By then they will have a pro Z body out, the Z 2.8 Trinity (wedding photographers) and Hopefully a 500mm or 600mm prime to attract Pro sports and wildlife shooters.

So that's it, get out while you can (lol, I'm kidding...., but not really)
