A few shots from Payne's Prairie today

A lot of hiking today out on the Prairie.

There are about a dozen wild horses out on the Prairie. They were a good ways off of the trail so I had to walk about a half mile through waist high marsh grass to get within shooting distance. There are also about 20 bison but they were a long way off. Getting a shot of them was not worth going through that marsh grass for about 3 miles to get to them. Not to mention that there are cottonmouths and alligators all over the Prairie. They are easy to spot in the open but not amongst the thick marsh grass.

You may have heard about video which has gone viral about a horse beating the stuffings out of an alligator. That was here at the Prairie! I saw that stallion today, he has a nasty scar on his left rear leg. He is lucky he still has that leg.
