It is that time again

Nesting time for the Osprey's on our beaches. I shot this yesterday, I could only see one chick in the nest but that is not really an indication of how many there are. This chick only looks to be a couple of days old.

I wish the image were sharper, most likely some camera movement, but I was looking at about 25x with the rig I had so even at 1/800 sec, the slightest movement can cause blur. I will go back tomorrow after TS Colin has passed and our weather has settled down and set up camp and stay there for a lot longer than I could yesterday. I used the D300, 600mm f/4 and TC-14B. I should have used the TC-300 but I thought I could get close enough I would not need it. As it turns out, when shooting birds who nest high like the Osprey, close is not always the best approach because you are looking up more at the nest. Therefore, you cannot see the chicks as well especially when they are so small. I will return to this nest often to get shots as the chicks get larger and more active.
