Figured they deserve a thread of their own

Spotted a hawk on the college lamp post as I was driving by. I had to do some fancy lane changing, but it waited patiently

Here are a few of my feeble attempts. I am lucky I suppose as we have a abundance of raptors in my area, Red Tails, Sharpies, Coopers, Kestrals, Osprey, Eagles, take your pick!

They don't look feeble to me.
My pick is sharpies over the big fat slow eagles. ... Ummm except for goldens :)

We live in a small town. I walked out the back door of the house, to get in my pickup, and saw this Hawk perched on top of the chain link fence about 25 ft away. The bird feeder is in that area. He was not afraid of me, and just sat there. He finally flew up into the Pecan Tree at the corner of the yard...only about 30 foot away, where I took this image. He perched there for probably 5-6 minutes. I am thinking he thinks my back yard has a very nice Small Bird & Squirrel Buffet, and was waiting for his order to arrive. This is the first time I have ever seen a Hawk in our yard.

I am not a Bird person, and from information I found online, I am guessing this is a "Coopers Hawk". Please correct me if I am wrong.

Id say your ID is correct, nice big feet on yours , nice robust example of a typical young bird. ( terror of the urban bird feeder )

Yup first year Cooper's hawk. We have a couple of these and a couple Sharpies that terrorize my feeders from time to time. It's funny to watch because when they come around everyone scatters. Once in awhile they sneak up then swoop down and it's a frenzy with a sparrow usually losing the battle.
