"Sign(s)" - (cwgrizz)'s Choice

A sign, a sign of the times, a humorous sign, a unique sign, an odd shaped sign, an old sign, a billboard, election signs, etc... Let's see how creative you can be! Color, B&W, HDR...anything goes!

DO NOT SHOOT OR POST IMAGES UNTIL WEDNESDAY July 29
This early announcement of the topic is to give a little think time, before the challenge begins. Photos must be taken and submitted between 00:00 UTC of the start date and 23:59 UTC of the end date.

The Rules

1. Photos must be captured with a Nikon and appear in the thread with EXIF info in order to be considered for the challenge. If the forum EXIF viewer does not show for any reason, listing the camera and capture date/time below the photo is acceptable. Listing exposure info, lens & focal length is encouraged so others can learn.

2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread.

3. Only one photo entry per member for each week, unless otherwise noted.

4. All regularly active members of Nikonites are allowed to participate, including moderators and administrators.

Voting

During the submission & like periods, please click the Thanks/Like button to vote for your favorite images. You can vote for as many as you want! At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to vote again for the top 3 photos for this challenge!

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Photo Challenges, unless specifically noted by the site administrator.

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited or straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

On the way from Charleston, SC I saw this sign on the side of an old dilapidated filling station and liked it so much, I deleted my first one and replaced it with this one. The fact that the two pieces of the sign don't quite match up perfectly and are not quite plumb with the siding just adds to the appeal of it!

I have to cry “Foul!” here.

Comments included with my entry were censored, because they expressed an opinion which @hark apparently finds disagreeable. These comments were necessary to put my image in context, and without them, my entry's meaning was destroyed.

Another entry, expressing an opinion contrary to mine, has so far been allowed to stand. That entry doesn't actually consist of any original context, only a picture of text expressing its opinion.

I am not in favor of such censorship in any event, but if my entry is to be censored, for the opinion which it expressed, then it would only be fair that the entry expressing a contrary opinion to mine equally be censored.

I find @hark's act of censorship to be cowardly, intellectually-dishonest, and inexcusable. I also think that in the context of this challenge, it constitutes cheating on behalf of the other entrant, whose opinion opposed mine.

If we are to have a rule, connected with these challenges, that the expression of controversial opinions is not to be allowed, then lets state that in the rules, and enforce it evenly and fairly. But I would be opposed to such a rule. This is an art, after all, and I agree with the widely-held opinion that it is a legitimate application of any form of art to express opinions which may be controversial.

But for now, the only fair resolution is either to restore my entry, as it was before that craven act of censorship was inflicted on it, or else to remove the other entry, which still stands, expressing the opinion contrary to mine. Anything else, as I said, is cheating.

@TwistedThrottle Bob Blaylock you are free to post your images again by tonight's cutoff time. There wasn't anything wrong with TT's entry. It was simply an image without any comment. Bob, you aren't permitted to give your opinion of mask wearing or calling people dumb or stupid who hold a difference of opinion with you. That has nothing to do with the challenge and ventures into a political discussion.

These challenges are simply photo challenges based on whether or not the photographers captured the theme without adding explanations to try and make sense of the subjects or to make the subjects try and fit the theme.

I only deleted Bob's post when he chose to withdraw from the challenge. We tend to go through and remove posts that derail the challenge threads. Had the comment been posted in a different subforum, it would have been edited but not deleted.

Any further condescending comments by anyone might result in an infraction and/or a time out.

I have deleted my post. Fair? Lets not make next weeks challenge, pasta political. K?

Not really the outcome I wanted.

I do not think that either of our entries should have been censored. I think we both should have been allowed our entries, as they were submitted, with their respective expressions of opposing opinions.

Censoring both opinions, because of the contrary opinions, was a bad idea. Even worse, though, is censoring one opinion, while allowing the opposing opinion. I cannot think of any circumstances under which i would consider that acceptableness at all.

The other entry had the comment in the image. Mine needed the comment external to the image, to put it in context.

The other entry was no less insulting toward those of us who disagree with the opinion that it expressed, than mine was toward those who disagree with my opinion.

No rational cause exists for you to have censored my entry, without censoring the other entry, though I would also argue that it really wasn't rational to censor either entry.

I consider your conduct in this matter to be dishonest, cowardly, and a blatant abuse of power.

In any event, I have to go to work. The deadline is going to pass before I have an opportunity to do anything further with this.

This is a photography forum, we moderators just do our best to keep this forum going. We've been around long enough to see how opinions on politics, religions or other sensitive subjects can create turmoil that send members away.

I wish that you would respect our opinions and just live with our decisions. They are after all final. Someone has to draw the line once in a while and in this case, I think Hark did a fine job, please comply.
