I think you are... The 200-400mm has a slot near the rear for 52mm drop-in filters, the front lens element is a protective element.Hello Nikonites,
I just received my rental a "AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II" According to the specs the filter size says 52mm. But, it has a humungous lens and I cannot figure it out how to screw the 52mm filter.
Am i missing something ?
Thanks for your help, G

Probably not a good idea... Ring thickness is one issue, but there are other possible issues as well. Best, in this case, to stick with Nikon-branded 52mm filters. So it's a drop-in, and a typical screw-on 52mm filter wouldn't work in this case?
