Well, if someone would have told me 4 or 5 years ago that I’d buy a Tamron lens, I would have called them Nuts. But, thanks to the good people on the Nikonite’s site, I took the plunge. I did all my research and read the reviews and watched the YouTube videos. They’re all well and good, but it was the Nikonite folks that I truly trusted. I wanted to know the opinions of real people, not company shills, or someone being compensated for their comments.

Disclaimer: I’m a hack and I’m the first one to admit it. I’m so far from being a knowledgeable Pro, that I can’t even spell Rpo. With that in mind, I still enjoy my photography hobby immensely. “Soft in the corners” and “poor quality at ISO 128,000” means absolutely nothing to me.

OK, so I wanted a lens that was easy to use and could pull the most out of my photographic attempts without breaking the bank. I just wanted a good photographic result that is pleasing to the eye and something I can play with in post processing. I wanted a walk-about lens for varied situations and light conditions. I might also mention that I generally root for the underdog, and I believe Tamron is an underdog in the lens-race. I found a nib Tamron 24-70/2.8VC for $833 and ordered it. I found others for a little less money, but sometimes, saving a few bucks is the wrong choice.

Anyway, the lens came today and I immediately took it to my Camera/Lens Testing Facility…. The Deerfield Beach Arboretum. The Arboretum offers different shadings, distances, detail and colors. Additionally, some sights are quite pretty. The next few postings are the representative photographs from today’s outing. These aren’t cherry-picked and they are minimally PP with cropping and some light adjustments. What you see is pretty much the minimum of what you can expect from this lens.

Great report and photos! Soft in the corners has never meant anything to me either! I'm a little soft in the corners myself!!! This lens is on my short list (which tends to be pretty long!)
