I currently have the Nikon AF-S 80-400MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR on a D7200, would like to bring a second body on a extended vacation and am having trouble deciding which one. Any of the 7000 series would work but what about the 5000 series as this lense would be able to auto focus with its built in motor. The only thing I have noticed is the 5000 series from Nikon feel very light, would they be able to carry around my fairly heavy Nikon AF-S 80-400MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR lense. I do use a vest cotton carrier when hiking around so it would spend some time hanging downward. Thanks for any info.

Rent a D500, they make a great combo.

No matter which body you get, you don't want your strap to be attached to the body due to the excessive weight of the lens. You can damage the body's mount that way. Paul's suggestion of using a strap to attach to the tripod collar would be the best way to carry the body/lens combo.
