After much study and reading posts about 55-300 vs 70-300, I just ordered a 55-300 for my D90. Thought I'd stay with DX lenses. Next step - probably teleconverter. Thanks everyone for your helpful posts.
bill i think the converter doesn't work with the 55-300 but it will with the 70-300, if i had of known that when i bought my 55-300 it would have changed my mind.
Just googled nikon teleconverter - neither the 55-300 nor the 70-300 listed as compatible to teleconverter and nikon says it would damage the lens due contact between lenses. So, for the money, I'll probably save for a newer camera.
Not recommending it because of IQ loss and speed loss buts its possible one of the Kenko converters may fit,its often only Nikon TCs that have a problem, this post is for info only before some one jumps on me
