Good review, especially the explanation of the new technology. He made a good point about the lens not shipping with a tripod collar because the lens is light enough that it simply doesn't need one. Thanks for the link.

It's a good sized lens and at $2k it should come with a collar. I picked up a third party for my 70-200 f4, it's just convenient to have and an accessory that should be included instead of an additional money maker. I could understand if they were universal, but they are not.

It weighs only 26.6 oz (a little less than the 18-300 f/5.6, for example) and is a tad under 6 inches long. If it came with a tripod collar, I would probably take it off. Of course, if it came with a tripod collar everyone could choose whether to use it or not, but I don't fault Nikon for not including it with this lens.
