Tamron 150-600 on its way - I think I should put some numbers on the lottery tonight.

I've had one of these 150-600 lenses in mind since they were announced but I wasn't in a mad rush to get one and certainly didn't want to be in the first batch. So far in the UK they have been order only on a lengthy lead time so I couldn't get one if I tried. Today I was just curious if things had changed and Wex in the UK showed stock. I rang and they had one left out of thirty which came in yesterday!! Needless to say it was plastic out and the lens is on its way for delivery tomorrow

This should be interesting as I've previously coupled the TC-20e III to my 70-200 VRII for a 400mm solution, however I've never been 100% happy with it. On occasion as I've posted here it can deliver fantastic results however I couldn't get consistent, predictable results  I'm hoping the Tamron will solve the problem. If it performs as reported the TC will be going and the 70-200 can stay bare where its performance is steller. The only slight problem is that this first lens is a share for the wife and I to see what we think. If it works I'll end up needing a second

My question for anyone who already has the Tamron is regarding bags. I only want something to store the lens and maybe carry it around over the shoulder. From what I've read the Lowepro 11x26cm is a good but very neat fit. Does anyone have any experience of this combo and if so does the collar and hood fit in the bag? If not, what else fits the bill?

I was seriously considering moving on the sigma 150-500 this weekend but now will wait for your results.

I wouldn't judge by my results Mike as I'm far from expert in this type of photography (Or many others for that matter). The general thinking at the moment seems to be that the Tamron is the one to get however people do get great results with the Sigma which is a fair bit cheaper now. I've always been impressed with @BackdoorHippie photos with the Sigma.

Dont sell yourself short,i have the 120-400 sigma but its not that good at 400mm,but it is said to be the worse of the three.

Had I known the lens would have been such a hot item, I would have put my name on three of 'em at the local store I got mine from.

I was no. 1 on their list. I could have snagged the first three that came in and sold the other two for a tidy profit.

The 70-200 with TC can yield very good results, I just feel I never know what I'm going to get. I think part if it is that I probably take pictures of things that need a 5-600mm so I'm pushing the limits and cropping. Let's see how I fair with the new one. I may have to fight my wife for it tomorrow when it arrives.

Everything was going so well and then the shop decided to use the former UK nationalised courier Parcelforce. In my experience they are the worst for next day delivery and they didn't manage to change that opinion today. Not happy!!

The funny thing is, the newer private courier companies (in the uk that's anyone less than 100 years old) give a one hour slot and you can set your watch by them, whereas the former publicly owned one doesn't seem to give a damn. Hopefully the post office and Parcelforce will go out of business and let those who know they need to please customers take the business.

Royal mail as a separate company i find very good, they still have a depot in Grimsby so i will happily miss a delivery and collect it,but parcel force organization is Cr**
