AF-S VR MICRO 105/2.8G IF-ED making a noise when vibration reduction is on.

I have just purchaced a AF-S VR MICRO 105/2.8G IF-ED lens and when I have it on vibrations reduction it makes kind of a hissing noise. Does anyone know if this is normal, or is my lens faulty?

Do you mean the noise when the lens is trying to lock on to the subject?
That would be the focus motor, though it is known as Silent Wave motor
IMO, it is not very loud in my lens..

Unless you're about to step on a snake you shouldn't really hear any hissing noise.

the vr noise on nikon lenses can vary between samples, i know, i have had three of them. the 18-105 was pretty silent. the 55-200 made a hissing noise and the 70-300 made a slight click when locking on and off.
uness the noise is too loud there shouldnt be a problem.
