I just joined this forum today.. having been user of point and shoot before , I got myself a Nikon D5100 with Nikkor 18-105mm lens two days ago ..

Wanted to know or views on the lens.

Hi and welcome...From all accounts the 18-105mm is a pretty good lens...

By the way I am from a small tropical island of Mauritius

Anyone near around ?

What good lens for macro shooting please and any tips ...

Welcome to Nikonites. I've found that the best way to learn photography is to learn about your camera first. So start by reading your manual and get to know the important functions of your camera, settings, connections, etc.

18-105 lens is a great lens. And for macro, get yourself an 85mm macro lens. The tips come after you start learning how to shoot. Don't be in a rush.....this takes time.
