Beware as it does NOT work with a lot of zoom lenses. To my knowledge, it only works with "Pro lenses". Something to do with minimum aperture to properly acquire focus. See warnings in your user manual.

You will really need to google and research, because you are using a consumer level DSLR, and we have no idea which lens you are using.

Bear in mind that no matter what Teleconverter you use, you will be losing IQ to some degree, as you are sticking more glass elements in the light path between your lens glass and the camera sensor. Add to that, because of the same reason, you will also be losing some light. This has the effect of ' stopping down '

If you shoot a subject without a TC at f4, then add a 2x TC, you will effectively be shooting 2 stops down, which is f8. Thats how much light you lose. Thats not even adding the fact that IQ will suffer, depending on camera and lens used.

Cant say anymore really as the info you have given is sparse to say the least

Required maximum aperture to retain autofocus with Nikon TC-E teleconverters:

TC-14E (1.4X) f/4
TC-17E (1.7X) f/3.3
TC-20E (2X) f/2.8

(other restrictions may also apply)
